Government forces in Nigeria eliminated 51 elements of extremist groups in operations carried out in northern areas from May 18 to the 1st of this month, informed a military source.
The Director of Defense Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, also informed that 876 members of the Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province formations were handed over to the Army in the referred period.
In addition to capturing weapons, the military troops also arrested 22 logistic suppliers of the groups considered as terrorists and rescued 16 kidnapped civilians alive, the source said in his biweekly summary of military operations.
In recent months, Nigerian troops have intensified attacks against extremist groups and criminal gangs in the northeast and northwest regions of the country, with the aim of annihilating their members, who kill or kidnap people for whose release they demand ransom.
