MOTOR CRASH

Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has warned motorists to desist from speeding and disregard to traffic laws, following a ghastly motor accident that claimed the lives of 12 people in Gbongan, along Ife-Ibadan express, Osun State

When contacted on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Osun command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the accident and warned motorists against speeding and disregarding traffic laws.

She said, “The crash occurred early Friday. Twelve people lost their lives and eight others were injured and taken to a hospital in Ile-Ife. Two buses and a truck were involved.

“The advice of Osun command of the NSCDC to the motoring public is that they should respect traffic laws to avoid needless loss of lives. Speed kills. Let’s keep our road safe by respecting laws.”

A resident of Gbongan, Rasaq Olatoye, who joined the rescue operation, said a head-on collision led to the accident.

Olatoye also said one of the vehicles involved was driving against traffic when the accident occurred.

He said, “I can’t say precisely when the accident occurred, but I was part of the rescue operation. Two buses and a truck were involved.”
