The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has charged residents to vote peacefully during Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly Elections.
The Corps Commandant (CC), Mr Usman Alfadarai, said this in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Mr Seun Abolurin, on Friday in Lagos.
Alfadarai urged eligible voters to shun violence, warning that the corps would not hesitate to arrest anyone or groups that planned to disrupt elections.
He said the 3,640 officers depolyed to oversee the concluded Presidential and National Assembly Elections would also provide security in Saturday’s ections.
Alfadarai said, “The corps advises eligible voters to go about their electoral rights peacefully and shun all forms of violence.
“NSCDC reiterates commitment to ensure conducive atmosphere that is devoid of electoral violence, crimes and criminalities during the elections.”
He stressed that the command would always execute the mandate to protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
“These assets include oil and gas pipelines; telecommunication, railway and power installations, buildings and offices; federal, state and local government sites, among others,” Alfadarai said.
He said the tactical election team was drawn from various departments and units, including Operations, Intelligence and Investigation, Anti-Vandal, Armed Squad, to name a few.
Alfadarai also assured the public of the command’s readiness to enforce smooth election through sensitisation of the electorate.
He said the corps would work in synergy with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.(NAN)
