Following the outbreak of protests in Ogun State over the naira scarcity,
the Ogun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Frank Mba has taken a leading role in a
combined anti-riot team of policemen and soldiers to tackle the rioters
converged mainly on Bank Road in the Centre of Sagamu.

It was gathered that the violence broke out as early as 8am on Monday as a result of alleged stoppage of
the banks’ operations with Automated Teller Machines reportedly not dispensing
cash since last week.

The videos shared on Monday showed many residents watching as Keystone and
Union banks were set ablaze with some youths holding planks in protest.

As at the time of filing this report, competent sources confirmed how the
riots have been brought under control in the greater parts of Sagamu including
the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Express Road by the Frank Mba-led anti-riot squad.

Meanwhile, CP Mba has urged the Ogun State residents to continue to be law
abiding and resist any temptation to take laws into their hands, assuring that
government is striving to restore circulation of naira notes to normalcy and
bring the much-needed succour for the people within the shortest time.
