As part of efforts to rid the country of recurring cases of human trafficking, sexual harassment and domestic violence, among other related offences, the anti-human trafficking and gender unit of the Lagos State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested a suspected paedophile, Akinbode Ridwan, male, aged 24, who hails from Oyo and lives in Bariga, Lagos.
Public Relations Officer of the command, Abolurin Oluwaseun, said the suspect was arrested following due diligence, credible and actionable intelligence taken on him by the Command’s personnel, since the matter was reported to the above-named unit in the last week.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect first had carnal knowledge of his victim (name withheld) at age 15 in an uncompleted building where he usually lured her to about two years ago, before making another attempt on her in October this year, which led to his arrest.
“The Anti-human trafficking and Gender Unit of the Command, through its significant relationships with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), human rights bodies and other relevant institutions, was able to partner with Women At Risk Medical International Foundation (WARIF) to conduct medical examination on the victim, in a bid to intensify investigations, bring the culprit to book and to teach other unrepentant perpetrators of this heinous and highly abominable crime a good lesson,” Oluwaseun said.
The NSCDC, Lagos State Commandant, Commandant of Corps (CC) Edenabu Okoro Eweka, frowned at the unholy sexual entanglement and has ordered that the suspected culprit be handed over to the appropriate government agency for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
