Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, the Directorate of State Service (DSS) said it will go after all subversive elements that might have been planning to truncate 2023 electoral process in Nigeria.
Speaking through Dr. Peter Afunanya, the Spokesman of the DSS, at the 2022 Annual Security Conference orgarnized by People’s Security Monitor on Wednesday, the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi said his Service would not tolerate iota of criminal adventures, indiscipline, unethical conducts and general misbehavior either before, during or after the 2023 general elections, stressing that arrangements are already in top gear to deal with subversive elements during the elections.
He emphasized the need for Nigeria to continually enjoy security with or without elections. as non- negotiable contract between the government and the Nigerian citizens.
‘’We are committed to the processes of the election whether before, during or after 2023 general elections, just as we are duty bound to ensure that nothing tampers with the corporate existence of Nigeria, this explains why we are not going to allow subversive elements a breathing space. no matter how minute.
With or without election, citizens of Nigeria must remain Nigerians; election is just a process that comes at intervals so when it comes it does not mean that people should set out to start killing themselves and forget the fact that they are Nigerians in the first instance.
So what we do by our mandate at DSS is to ensure detection and
prevention of crimes against the stability of Nigeria. Nigeria is a
territorial enclave that must always be protected at all times against
internal crisis and external aggression whether there is election or
not. The country constitution provides that Nigeria must remain
indissoluble and indivisible.”
For a security agency like DSS, we are duty bound to ensure detection
and prevention of crimes against Nigeria, we must at all times ensure
that nothing tampers with the unity of Nigeria, and we are committed
to that.
And this explains our synergy and collaboration with other security
agencies to ensure peace in Nigeria.”
