The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command Okon Effiong has charged the officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Rivers State Command to see themselves and the Nigeria Police Force in the State as brothers of the same Parent.
CP Okon made this known during a courtesy visit to the State Headquarters of the NSCDC in Port Harcourt where he lauded the Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi for the magnificent transformation and innovation brought into the Corps since his assumption of office.
The Nigeria Police Commissioner in Rivers State Command maintained that the need for Inter-Agency collaborations, joint operations and up-to-date Intelligence sharing to enhance the Security architecture of the State cannot be overemphasized most especially as the Campaigns have commenced and the Nation is warming up for the 2023 General Elections.
” It is very important for me to acquaint you with the fact that the Nigeria. Police remains the lead agency in Internal Security across the nation but the Police cannot do it alone as Security is a matter of collective responsibility; the NSCDC has been and will continue to be a critical stakeholder and we must collaborate with the Military and other Paramilitary outfits to ensure that the primary purpose of creating each of the Agencies be fully accomplished without hesitations’.
” I have come with the message that we have a Father which is Nigeria and the goal this nation today is: Sustaining both territorial and internal security, protection of lives and property of citizens, prevention of crimes as well as ensuring a conducive environment for our people in the 2023 General Election”.
“We need to collaborate and work in synergy; no agency has the monopoly of knowledge therefore let us work together because a house divided against each other cannot stand; it will be a shame if we begin to fight before those we are meant to protect, as we carry out our constitutional responsibilities; we must educate those serving under us on the need to shun superiority complex and unnecessary rivalries because we are brothers from thesame Parent”.
In his remarks the Rivers NSCDC Boss, Michael Ogar appreciated the CP for making time to visit the Command affirming that effective collaborations is a panacea to combating crime and criminalities in the State. He further reiterated the Command readiness to work closely with the Nigeria Police to provide adequate security for the people of Rivers State.
Commandant Ogar said the Command under his watch has not relented in carrying out the Corps Mandate in Safeguarding all Critical National Assets and Infrastructures, Disaster Management through proactive warning against occurrence of disasters and rescuing of victims during emergencies; Training,Supervision and Monitoring of Private Guard Companies, Intelligence gathering amongst others. He however issued a stern warning that “any NSCDC personnel caught engaging in Inter-Agency rift or infractions would be dealt with decisively”.
In the highpoint of the visit the Command helmsman led the CP to addressed the 3 Area Commanders and the 23 Divisional Officers representing each local governments in the State urging them to work hand in hand with the Police Divisional Officers (DPO) in their respective Divisions to ensure an hitch-free 2023 Elections.
