The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has recently in a new post on his verified Twitter handle noted that he doesn’t think it is normal for a policeman to compel someone to state a statement against his own will.
He said that writing a statement under duress is an outdated practice in the police force. Adding that the police must even have the consent of the suspect if he can’t write before they can help him write the statement.
Speaking further, He told Nigerians that if they have stations where such practices still thrive, then it is a pure case of illegality and evil doing. Stating that it’s evil for a policeman to force a suspect to lie or write against himself.
