The Commandant General (CG) of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi has expressed commitment towards safe schools in the country.
Audi, who spoke at the 2022 Education Summit, of the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN), said no stone will be left unturned to ensure that schools are safe for learning.
Represented by Lagos State Commandant of the Corps, Edenabu Okoro Eweka, the Commandant General noted that the school safety initiative, has drastically reduced insecurity in schools, with the formation of Special Female Squad (SFS ), which was recently inaugurated by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
According to him, the role of SFS was to eradicate cultism, kidnapping, rape, bullying, hooliganism, drug abuse and other crimes often seen among school children nationwide.
While giving an appraisal of NSCDC’s roles and achievements in the project, he said there is notable reduction in social vices and insecurity in schools throughout the federation.
“NSCDC’s School Safety Initiative, has drastically reduced insecurity in schools, throughout the nation, with the formation of the Special Female Squad (SFS).
“After, the Squad graduated, from a highly organised paramilitary re- training at the National Headquarters and all State Command formations through rigorous and intelligent activities, it has played advocacy roles and mounted school campaigns to educate students and teachers, on issues of safety and security, either in schools or out of schools.” the commandant said.
The event was rounded off with a panel session, which was moderated by Chairman of EWAN, Mr. Mojeed Alabi, to further deepen the importance of the initiative, while NSCDC’s Commandant General was also presented a plaque, as a symbol of appreciation, which was received on his behalf by Lagos State Commandant.
