Gombe NSCDC arrests commercial sexual workers, other suspects

Gombe State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 53 suspected criminals, including 19 ladies.

The suspects, who were paraded in the Gombe, yesterday, include: money counterfeiters, “kalare” boys, commercial sex workers, burglars, motorcycle robbers and petty thieves.

NSCDC state commandant, Waziri Goni said the counterfeiters were caught with fake Euro, Dollars and Naira currencies worth over N7.5million on conversion.

Goni said the motorcycle robbers either steal or collect the motorcycles at gunpoint, after which they take their loots to Alkaleri, a border community between Gombe and Bauchi for waiting buyers who buy the N500,000 worth of  motorcycle for N150,000.

According to him, the sex workers, mostly underaged were raided at three locations, including Gallas and brothels in the metropolis.

He said: “The sex workers are mostly underaged and are from the neighbouring Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Borno and even Jos.

“They are all of school age. They left home without their parents’ knowledge. It is sad that this is what society is breeding.

“As for us, we will not condone societal vices, we have enough problems in our hands here in Gombe, we just can’t afford to add to them.”

Explaining that the “Kalare” boys were going about the state with axes, Cutlass, knives and other dangerous weapons to dispossess the people of their valuables, he said all the accused would be charged to court this week, “it is for law to discourage such recurrence,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Command has engaged Sheikh Isah Alawiy to counsel the accused.

Alawiy told newsmen that yesterday was the seventh time he was engaged by the Command to counsel accused people on how to  be better citizens.
