The Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, on Sunday, said Nigeria is losing a lot of revenues to illegal oil merchants and this has a debilitating effect on the economy.
Audi commended state commandants across the federation for the reconstitution of the new Anti-Vandal Squad to wage war against vandals and oil thieves.
He said the reconstitution would put a stop to all forms of sabotage in the oil sector through arrests and diligent prosecution of oil thieves, their sponsors and all those dealing illegally in petroleum products.
Olusola Odumosu, NSCDC Director of Public Relations, in a statement on Sunday, said the reconstitution was sequel to the strategic decision of corps management to rejig its anti-vandalism operations nationwide.
He charged the newly-reconstituted body to remain firm, focused and fierce with the enemies of the nation who have vowed to continue sabotaging the nation’s economy.
He further gave a marching order to state commandants to deploy all machinery both on land and in the waterways to carry out massive arrests and possible prosecution of oil thieves
