Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
The National Human Rights Commission has inspected the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in line with the nationwide audit of detention centers to ensure the protection of human rights.
The state Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Mrs. Nkechi Ugwuanyi noted that the commission’s aim for embarking on the audit was to ensure that detention facilities follow to latter, the provisions of Section 6 (d) of the National Human Rights Commission Amendment Act (2010) in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act,2015.
She commended the Corps for their role in the protection of human rights and urged them never to relent.
Receiving the group, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Everestus Obiyo assured that the command will accord suspects their fundamental human rights at all costs.
According to Mr. Obiyo, the Corps would continue to observe the sanctity of suspects at all times, promising to collaborate with the commission towards minimizing cases of human rights abuses.
The delegation was later taken around the command’s detention facilities.
