Uncertain number of people have been reported dead in a stampede which occurred in a church known as ‘Kings Assembly’ situated in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
It was learnt that the incident happened just before the commencement of a programme organised by the church to hold at the Polo Club in the Rivers State capital and expected to accomodate the usual large congregation.
However, the crowd overstretched the venue as the church had invited members of the public to come and receive gift items and food to mark its fourth anniversary.
According to a source, the crowd which started trooping in at about 6:30am on Saturday morning pushed open a small gate to gain entrance leading to a stampede.
